Artist Anthony Natsoulas Selects Artwork for Roseville Exhibit

Sacramento artist Anthony Natsoulas has made final selections for Roseville Arts’ 31st National Open Show. The exhibit will celebrate its opening with a reception and awards presentation at the 2237 Gallery in Roseville on September 2, 2006.

As show juror, Natsoulas selected fine artwork by 28 artists from the 93 who submitted work from 14 different states. The opening reception will feature an 8pm awards presentation announcing Natsoulas’ selection of the exhibit’s $1000 Best of Show and other cash award winners. The exhibit is open to the public September 2-29 at the 2237 Gallery, 2237 Douglas Blvd in Roseville--during the September 2 reception, 6:30-9pm; South Placer's 3rd Saturday Art Tour, September 16, 6:30-9pm; and weekdays, 7am-6pm.

"It takes a special strength to want to have one's artwork judged," wrote Natsoulas in his juror’s statement. One of the things Natsoulas keeps in mind when looking at artwork is whether or not the piece inspires him or makes him think about the world in a new way. "As artists, this is a very hard thing to control because there is such a wide degree of tastes in the world, which hinge not only on the visual aspects of a piece of art, but also on what the viewer brings to the piece."

A portion of proceeds from artwork sales will benefit the non-profit Roseville Arts as it continues to bring quality art and art-related programs to the region.

Williams + Paddon Architects + Planners Inc., Lafler, Moore Connerty & Webb are hosting this Roseville Arts exhibit for the second year in a row in their 2237 Gallery. Roseville Arts is eagerly awaiting a permanent, state-of-the-art gallery currently under construction in downtown Roseville. ROSEVILLE, CA APRIL 21, 2006 The Roseville Arts capital campaign—Keep Art in our Future—is almost at goal, according to an announcement made during a reception honoring late Roseville City Councilman Earl Rush amid his collection of vintage photographs on Friday evening, April 21 in the Roseville Civic Center.

Roseville Mayor Gina Garbolino welcomed participants, including Virginia Rush, stating, “It is fitting that this announcement is being made as we pay tribute to the artistic talents of Earl Rush and to his love for the arts. As a councilman, Earl knew the importance of arts in a community, and he worked tirelessly to ensure that the arts were an integral part of the Roseville community. This exhibition not only honors the private, unheralded talents of an important public figure; it also symbolizes the value of the public-private partnership between The City of Roseville and Roseville Arts.”

In an extraordinary public-private alliance, the City of Roseville is providing Roseville Arts with 5,000 square feet on the first floor of the new Vernon Street parking structure. The organization’s new home will be known as “the blue line gallery.” The “Keep Art in our Future” capital campaign is being conducted to fund tenant improvements in the new space.

According to Aldo Pineschi, Campaign Chair, the campaign is nearing its goal of $500,000. Says Pineschi, “Thanks to our generous donors, we have raised nearly $400,000 and we anticipate completing our campaign by June 1. I invite the community to join us in this effort so we can ‘Keep Art in our Future!’”

Roseville Arts Board President Darla Yetter emphasized, “We wouldn’t be able to do this without the generous support of our community. With the new gallery, we’ll be able to bring in world-class art exhibits as well as hands-on educational offerings. The time is now for everyone who shares our vision to join us in reaching our campaign goal.”

Announcing a contribution of $40,000 from the City of Roseville, Mayor Garbolino said, “The City of Roseville is a proud contributor to ‘Keep Art in our Future’. The new blue line gallery will greatly enhance redevelopment efforts and will be a positive addition to furthering Roseville’s vision of a ‘creative economy’ in our downtown. I am hopeful that Roseville residents will share this vision and contribute to making the vision reality.”

Contributions may be sent to Roseville Arts, 7501 Foothills Blvd., Roseville, CA 95747. Contributions may also be charged by phone at (916) 783-4117. Or contribute on line at www.rosevillearts.org All contributions will be recognized and are tax deductible to the extent of the law.

Roseville Arts Recipient of Gift

Roseville Arts is the recipient of a gift from the Community's Greatest Need Fund of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation to be applied to its outreach and educational efforts.

Roseville Arts Executive Director Barbara Dolder, stated, "Roseville Arts wishes to express our appreciation to the generous donors who contribute to the Community's Greatest Need Fund of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation. We are currently in a period of transition, holding exhibitions and events in various locations throughout the region while our new facility is under construction. This gift will help to ensure that our outreach and educational programs will continue to flourish during construction until our return to downtown Roseville."

Roseville Arts! (formerly the Roseville Arts Center) is an active community resource located in Roseville, California. Established over 40 years ago to promote the arts in its many formats, Roseville Arts supports local artists and also brings artwork from around the world to the area. As a non-profit organization, Roseville Arts is entirely funded by memberships, grants, sponsorships, fund raising events and other donations.

With the dramatic growth in Placer County, the Roseville Arts Center's board of directors recognized that the center had to change significantly to successfully continue its mission "to encourage and support the enjoyment, appreciation and growth of the arts in our communities." Following the sale of its former facility, the Haman House, the center temporarily moved its operations and exhibits to 405 Vernon Street. The Vernon Street facility, a former restaurant and bar turned office space, was transformed into the functional "405 Gallery" with the generous assistance and dedication of volunteers.

The 405 Gallery has been demolished to make way for a new City of Roseville parking structure. Roseville Arts will occupy the main floor in a handsome new arts venue within the structure fronting Vernon Street. During construction, Roseville Arts has taken its exhibits on the road under the name Roseville Arts! @ … Exhibits will continue in a variety of venues until the new facility is completed.

The new facility of over 5,000 square feet, will showcase the works of regional as well as national artists and feature a state-of-the-art gallery complete with flexible exhibition space suitable for small musical performances, lectures, demonstrations and poetry readings. The Art House, a children's gallery within Roseville Arts, will combine exhibition space with art activities and workshops for all ages. The center will also offer a resource library of artistsí portfolios for potential clients.
