Paper pop-up images from the five books in David A. Carter’s newly completed The Red Dot Series (Simon & Schuster) are expected to delight visitors to this exhibit with mind-tickling displays of color and form, movement and sound, even the
challenge of a scavenger hunt. Since an integral part of experiencing Carter’s art form is tactile, visitors will be invited to
touch elements of the exhibit as well. Large renditions of the paper sculptures will also be introduced, including an original piece the artist created specifically for this show.
ABOUT DAVE CARTER
Born and educated in Utah, David A. Carter moved to California and began his career here as a graphic designer and advertising illustrator in the 1970’s. Employment with Intervisual Communications, Inc., introduced him to paper engineering and book design, and by 1987 he was working freelance as a popular author and illustrator of children’s books. Carter has more than 80 published pop-up books including a popular children’s collection on bugs (Simon & Schuster) and Horton Hears a Who Pop-Up! (Random House). Carter considers The Red Dot Series to be his greatest artistic accomplishment in the field of pop-up engineering. The series resulted from a dozen years of experimenting with pop-up structures that evolved into non-representative, spontaneous Modern Art forms—the minimalist sculptures in these five books. More information about Carter and his pop-up books is available online at www.popupbooks.com/.
“It’s so exciting to see the depth of the selection

There is something here for everyone!”
