Gayle Roger Streff

My interest in photography goes back to my youth.  In high school, I was student photographer for the yearbook, and a member of the Photo Club.

I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois in 1966.  Studies included drawing, painting, sculpture and design as well as photography.  After college, my career path took me away from professional art, but I continued to take photographs of various places around the world, primarily in 35mm slide format.
Now retired, I have returned to photography.  My primary medium is digital photography.  It produces amazing results.  Without the need to reload film or the need to carry the extra canisters the creativity can flow without interruption.
My philosophy of photography can be summed up in this short poem in free verse.

Winds blow
Clouds roll by
Seasons change
Man leaves his mark
Life goes on

The work of man
The beauty of nature
Is all around us
All we need do is
Provide the frame

My photographs have been in the Roseville Arts 32nd Annual Open Show in 2008, and received a second place award at the Rocklin Snowflake Art Show also in 2008.  My work has been displayed in one man shows at the Sierra Roasting Co on Stanford Ranch Road, Rocklin, CA and at the Rocklin Public Library, as well as other shows and exhibits.
The works included here are from various subject groups that interest me:  landscapes, animals, cityscapes and people.  Some are straight photographs and some I have manipulated in my electronic darkroom.
More examples of my work can be seen on my blog which I attempt to update monthly.
